GRADIENT / REVERSED END FIRED SUB ARRAY ON A TURN TABLE   1 comment

Recently I did a little experiment on a gradient / Reversed End Fired Sub Array and took a look at this array under 5º angle steps by turning the whole array via a outline turn table.

Due to iPhone compression no sound ;-)

Below you find the results at the @onaxis 0º mic position and the @180º mic position of the standard version (delay and ø reverse) and a version where I use a extra 3rd order Bessel Low pass filter from a Lake LM26 processor on top of the LR4 low pass filter already present in the linea LM amp i used for this example (on the back sub only). The Subs used are Fulcrum TS212’s (RED OFAX 180º FILTER TRICK PINK ONAX 0º FILTER TRICK YELLOW OFAX 180º DELAY º GREEN ONAX 0º DELAY Ø).

Mic’s where positioned 16 mt front and back from the centre of the array.

There was a 0.6dB offset between the 2 mic’s…..(ISEMcon EMX7150 standard of the shelf mics).

I did a little video on the result traces from Smaart where the first part shows magnitude response in 5º steps on the delay ø reverse version and the filter trick version also in 5º steps

I’m not sure if this is completely valid since the calibration was done in pretty strong winds as where all the rest of the measurements done.

the screen capture shows all the captured mag responses in 5º steps.

below you can see the SPL values taken with the SPL section from Smaart V9 Suite

Below you’ll find some suff for download if you’re interested in this kind of geekery 😉

ENJOY
